More than 2,000 widows in communities across the Ada area have received free medical screening, medication and food support under an initiative aimed at easing some of the health and welfare challenges confronting vulnerable women.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Ada and surrounding communities, were provided with medical examinations and medicines, as well as meals, drinks and assorted items to take home.
The intervention was organised by the Call of Diligence, Oil of Prosperity (CODEP) Outreach Foundation as part of its annual outreach programme.
Prophet William Oppong Peasah, Executive Director of the Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the programme, now in its 12th edition, was held in Ada following what he described as divine direction received by members of the Foundation.
He said the Foundation had over the years extended similar assistance to vulnerable communities in Ohawu, Ho, Dodze, Cape Coast and Tema, among other areas, with support from donors and other individuals.
Prophet Peasah encouraged widows to remain hopeful and resilient while appealing to individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to provide increased support to enable the Foundation to expand its outreach.
“Nobody wakes up and says to herself that she wants to be a widow. They should be strong and pray for us to get more help and funding,” he said.
Pastor Samuel Korley Ayornu, a religious minister of the Assemblies of God Church, Hwakpo Branch, and the local representative of the programme in Ada, said the expansion of the Foundation’s activities had increased the need for financial and material assistance.
He appealed to corporate Ghana and individuals to support initiatives targeting vulnerable people in communities.
Pastor Ayornu also urged the widows to remain committed to their aspirations and prioritise the education of their children and wards as a means of securing better opportunities for them.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, particularly the provision of free healthcare and medication.
Madam Joyce Apenkro of Afiadenyigba said the programme had provided her with free medical care, food and other items, adding that it was her first experience of benefiting from such an intervention.
Madam Atah Gbenartey of Kasseh and Madam Gifty Zotorvi of Tamatoku also expressed gratitude to the Foundation.
Madam Zotorvi said the free medication she received was beyond her expectations.
