The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with the fatal shooting of a married couple at Kusanaba in the Bawku West District.
The arrests mark a major breakthrough in investigations into the killing of 45-year-old Apam Azubilla and his wife, 35-year-old Apam Anomsigna, who were shot dead in their home on June 10, 2026.
According to a police statement, the suspects—identified as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam, Jawal Salam and a juvenile whose identity has been withheld—were apprehended on June 19 at a hideout in Kugre near Garu following intelligence-led operations by security personnel.
Preliminary investigations indicate that four armed men allegedly stormed the victims’ residence and opened fire on the couple while they were in their room.
Police said the attack triggered distress calls from Mr. Azubilla, prompting his brother, Ayubugre Apam, to rush to the scene, where he found the victims lying in a pool of blood.
The injured couple was immediately transported to health facilities for emergency treatment. However, Mrs. Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival at the Zegoyire Health Centre, while Mr. Azubilla later died at the Zebilla District Hospital after being referred for further medical attention.
Investigators who examined the bodies confirmed that both victims sustained gunshot wounds.
As part of the investigation, relatives of the deceased handed over three spent AK-47 ammunition shells recovered from the crime scene to the police.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue.
The latest arrests underscore the Police Service’s ongoing efforts to track down perpetrators of violent crimes and ensure justice for victims and their families.
