The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of Akwatia in the Eastern Region of maximum security as the constituency prepares for its upcoming by-election.
At a press briefing, the Director General of Operations, COP Vance Baba Gariba, emphasized that the Police Service is fully prepared to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the polls. He reassured voters that their safety is guaranteed, encouraging them to turn out in their numbers to exercise their civic rights.
“I want to reassure all the good people of Akwatia that they should come out in their numbers and exercise their franchise. The GPS will continue to assure them of their safety and security during this period,” COP Gariba stated.
On concerns about military deployment, COP Gariba clarified that while the army will remain on standby as part of contingency arrangements, their involvement will only be triggered if absolutely necessary. “If we don’t need the military, then we will not request their deployment,” he explained.
The police further indicated that they are working in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that the by-election is peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Residents have been urged to conduct themselves lawfully and avoid any acts that could disrupt the electoral process.
