The Ghana Police Service has intensified its campaign against traffic law violations, confiscating unauthorised sirens, strobe lights and improvised headlamps from 188 vehicles during a special enforcement operation in Kumasi.
The exercise, conducted by the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) with support from the Central MTTD in Accra and officers from the Police National Headquarters, focused on motorists violating road traffic regulations through the use of illegal vehicle accessories and unsafe driving practices.
The operation was carried out at the Airport Roundabout and Santasi Roundabout, where officers also targeted drivers unlawfully using road shoulders and verges to beat traffic.
In a statement issued on July 8, 2026, the Police Service said all unauthorised devices found on the intercepted vehicles were removed and seized.
Drivers were also educated on the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations and cautioned against repeating the offences.
According to the Police, the operation forms part of a nationwide effort to improve road safety, promote discipline among motorists and ensure greater compliance with traffic laws.
The Service warned that similar enforcement exercises will be extended to other parts of the country as authorities step up efforts to eliminate the misuse of sirens, strobe lights and other illegal vehicle modifications.
The Police further urged motorists to refrain from installing unauthorised emergency equipment on their vehicles, stressing that such practices create unnecessary risks for other road users and undermine lawful traffic management.
The latest operation underscores the Police Service’s renewed commitment to enforcing road traffic regulations and promoting safer roads across the country.
