The Ghana Police Service has declared a 43-year-old man, Theophilus Adusei, wanted for allegedly defrauding individuals under false pretences.
According to a wanted notice issued by the police, Adusei is being sought in connection with an offence contrary to Section 131 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Police describe the suspect as dark in complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and of bulky build. He is said to be a native of Jachie in the Ashanti Region and reportedly works as a staff member at Osu Castle.
The court warrant for his arrest, numbered 824 and dated April 15, 2024, was issued following allegations that he collected money from a complainant under the pretext of securing a Ghana scholarship for her ward to study policing. However, after receiving the funds, he allegedly failed to fulfill the promise.
An extract from the station diary at the Osu Police Station indicates that the complainant reported the matter after efforts to retrieve the money proved unsuccessful. Police have since issued the wanted notice and are urging the public to assist with information leading to his arrest.
The suspect was last seen around Osu, Trade Fair, Burma Camp in the Greater Accra Region, or Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. He is also believed to be hiding at La Tse Addo in Accra.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is advised to contact the nearest police station or call the police emergency numbers 191, 18555, or the Osu Police Station.
The Police Service has reiterated its commitment to tackling fraud and bringing suspects to justice.
