The Ghana Police Service in the Ketu Division is preparing security arrangements for a planned demonstration seeking justice for the late mobile money vendor, Christopher Ahordo, as organisers insist on going ahead with the picketing despite police advice to reconsider.
Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alfred Kudah, told the Ghana News Agency that police have already engaged the organisers and urged them to explore alternative means of expressing their concerns.
However, he said the organisers maintained their decision to proceed, citing their constitutional right to peaceful assembly and expression.
According to ACP Kudah, the police will nonetheless provide full security support to ensure law and order during the demonstration, with reinforcement expected from the Volta Regional Command.
He disclosed that the organisers have scheduled the picketing to begin on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, running from morning hours until midday, and continuing on Thursday until 1:00 p.m., with similar arrangements expected in the following days until their demands are addressed.
The police commander noted that suggestions for alternative engagement methods were rejected by the organisers, who remain firm on their decision to demonstrate.
He therefore urged the organisers to ensure strict discipline among participants and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“Organisers are expected to ensure that their followers remain within the law. Should the situation escalate beyond control, the Police will act to prevent any harm,” he warned.
The planned protest follows a two-week ultimatum issued by the family of Christopher Ahordo, who was killed in Aflao in 2025 while working as a mobile money vendor. The family is demanding updates on investigations, including concerns over the reported escape of a prime suspect and delays in the case.
Organisers say the picketing is aimed at pressing for justice, improved security in Aflao, and greater accountability in the handling of the case, while assuring that the demonstration will remain peaceful and orderly.
