The Ghana Police Service says it is tightening security surveillance in the Eastern Region after intercepting four live BB cartridges during a snap check operation at Akwatia.
Two men — Enoch Asiedu, 32, and Lu Youyan, 58 — were arrested when the cartridges were discovered in a Toyota Hilux pick-up at Boadua Livingstone Junction checkpoint.
A police statement issued Saturday explained that the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to curb the possession and movement of unauthorized weapons and ammunition across the country.
During initial questioning, Asiedu allegedly claimed that the cartridges belonged to his employer, identified only as Mohammed, who also owns the vehicle. Police say efforts are underway to trace and question Mohammed.
The two suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations.
The police assured the public that routine snap checks will continue across major highways and communities, aimed at deterring crime and ensuring safety.
