A police operation at a GCB Bank branch in Labone has ended with two suspected armed robbers dead and another in custody after officers foiled what authorities described as an attempted robbery.
The Ghana Police Service said the incident occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when officers intervened during the attempted attack on the bank.
In a statement, the Police confirmed that the operation prevented the robbery from being carried out.
“Two suspects have been gunned down and one has been arrested,” the statement said.
The Police did not immediately disclose the identities of the suspects or indicate whether any officers, bank staff or customers were injured during the operation.
Authorities said investigations were ongoing and that additional information regarding the attempted robbery and the circumstances surrounding the police intervention would be released in due course.
The incident has renewed attention on security measures at financial institutions and the Police Service’s response to armed robbery threats in Accra.
