Police authorities have commenced investigations into a fatal road accident at Atortorkorpe in the Ada East District that claimed the life of a police officer, Sergeant Lambert Kumbusoon.
The tragic incident, which occurred on the night of April 8, has raised concerns over road safety as preliminary accounts suggest multiple overtaking attempts may have contributed to the crash.
According to police, a distress call reported that a Kia Rhino truck had knocked down a motorbike rider, later identified as the deceased officer. He was rushed to the Ada East District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities say a driver has since reported himself to the police and is currently assisting with investigations, as efforts continue to determine the exact cause of the accident and establish responsibility.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the officer, who was riding a motorbike, may have collided with a parked bike before being run over by an oncoming vehicle. However, police say these accounts are yet to be verified.
Sergeant Kumbusoon had recently been transferred from the Criminal Investigation Department in Ada to Kpone prior to the incident.
The body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary and will be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy as part of ongoing investigations.
Police say further updates will be provided as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
