The Ghana Police Service has renewed calls for increased vigilance and prompt reporting of child abuse cases following the arrest of a 40-year-old man in Accra over alleged sexual offences involving a minor.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, the suspect, identified as Paul Kofi Annan, was apprehended by the Oyarifa District Police Command after a complaint was filed by his wife. Investigations suggest the suspect had been living with the complainant since 2023 and formally married her earlier this year.
Authorities say the case came to light after the nine-year-old victim reportedly confided in a relative during a visit outside Accra, prompting immediate action by the family and law enforcement. The police indicated that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The Command emphasised that protecting children remains a top priority and encouraged parents, guardians, and community members to report any suspected abuse without delay. It stressed that early reporting is critical to safeguarding victims and ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice.
