Concerns over deteriorating road infrastructure have taken centre stage in the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri area, with traditional authorities calling for urgent intervention despite ongoing community development efforts by mining firms.
The Odeefo Boa Amponsem VI has drawn attention to the worsening state of the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri road, describing it as a major obstacle to transportation, trade, and access to essential services.
Speaking at an event where Perseus Mining Ghana Limited handed over a 120-bed dormitory to Ayanfuri Senior High School, he acknowledged the company’s contributions to local development but stressed that road infrastructure remains a critical gap.
According to him, the poor condition of the road continues to disrupt economic activities, increase the cost of transport, and pose challenges for emergency response, particularly during the rainy season.
He emphasised that the road serves as a vital link connecting communities and mining operations, making its rehabilitation essential for improving livelihoods and boosting local commerce.
The traditional leader urged the company to consider supporting the road project as part of its corporate social responsibility, noting that such an investment would further strengthen ties between the company and host communities.
Responding to the appeal, Board Chairman of the company, Ehunabobrim Pra Agyensaim, said the concerns had been noted and would be forwarded to management for consideration.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community development and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders in its operational areas.
For many residents, the renewed call highlights a long-standing issue, as the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri road continues to be seen as a key driver of economic growth, education access, and healthcare delivery in the region.
