The Association of Ghana Industries has warned that persistent power disruptions are becoming a major threat to Ghana’s manufacturing sector, placing industrial growth and competitiveness at risk.
Speaking at the Sustainable Energy B2B Expo 2026, the President of AGI, Kofi Nsiah-Poku, said unreliable electricity supply has evolved from a business cost issue into a structural challenge affecting production, investment and expansion across industries.
Addressing participants under the theme “Powering Industry through Sustainable Energy,” Dr Nsiah-Poku stressed that stable and affordable energy remains essential for industrial transformation and economic growth.
“Energy remains the lifeblood of industrial growth. Without reliable, affordable and sustainable power, industries cannot expand and businesses cannot compete effectively,” he stated.
According to him, Ghana’s ambition to build a strong industrial economy and sustain a 24-hour economy could be undermined if the country fails to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
He further called for sustainable energy to become a central component of the country’s industrial development strategy rather than a secondary policy discussion.
Dr Nsiah-Poku also highlighted the AGI Energy Service Centre as one of the association’s practical interventions aimed at helping businesses improve energy efficiency and adopt renewable energy solutions.
“It represents AGI’s commitment to helping industries transition into a future where sustainability and profitability work hand in hand,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Gunnar Wegner described the energy transition as a competitiveness issue for businesses.
He said investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency could help companies reduce exposure to fuel price fluctuations and rising operational costs.
The expo brought together stakeholders including GIZ, Swisscontact, UN Global Compact Network Ghana and the Energy Commission to discuss financing, innovation and policy support for sustainable industrial energy systems.
Participants also engaged in exhibitions and networking sessions focused on connecting businesses with cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
