The Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC), Bechem, is set to embark on a significant road improvement project as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations in 2026, with a call for broad support from the government, alumni, and the corporate community.
At the anniversary launch held in Bechem, Ahafo Region, Headmistress Ms. Nancy Arthur outlined the school’s ambitious plans to overhaul its internal road network, transforming dusty, unpaved paths into modern, durable roadways.
“These roads are a constant challenge for our students and staff, becoming slippery in the rainy season and uncomfortably dusty during the dry months,” Ms. Arthur said. “We hope to honour the legacy of our founders by creating a more welcoming and functional campus environment.”
She emphasized that the road project, while costly, would stand as a lasting tribute to the school’s founding visionaries, including the late Nana Fosu Gyeabour II, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, whose joint efforts established PRESEC Bechem in 1966.
The school, which began with just 50 students (49 boys and one girl), has since grown to a bustling institution with 3,672 students (2,100 boys and 1,572 girls) and 286 staff members, including 220 teachers.
Ms. Arthur appealed to stakeholders, including parents, alumni, and corporate sponsors, to rally behind the project, stressing that enhanced infrastructure is critical to sustaining the school’s growth and maintaining its reputation for academic excellence.
She also highlighted other pressing needs, including more transport options, better classroom furniture, and updated computer labs to support effective ICT instruction.
The launch ceremony, which carried the theme, “60th Anniversary of Excellence in Education – Honouring the Achievements and Growth of Our Beloved Institution,” was attended by several prominent figures, including Reverend Benjamin Appiah, Chairperson of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery, as well as local political and educational leaders.
“Celebrating 60 years is not just about looking back; it’s about laying the foundation for the future and inspiring the next generation to reach greater heights,” Ms. Arthur added, reaffirming the school’s commitment to educational excellence.
With the anniversary fast approaching, PRESEC Bechem’s management hopes that the road project will serve as a fitting legacy, ensuring a safer, more attractive learning environment for generations to come.
