Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has emerged winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central constituency.
Prof. Seidu secured 840 votes, outpacing 11 other contenders in what was described as a highly competitive race. The contest was necessitated by the passing of the late MP, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who tragically died in a helicopter crash alongside seven others.
The election, held at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, drew significant attention as 12 aspirants, including three women, battled to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Prof. Seidu’s commanding victory was swiftly acknowledged by his competitors, who graciously congratulated him after the Electoral Commission declared the results. His win, with more than 800 ballots in his favour, has been hailed as a clear mandate from the NDC delegates of Tamale Central.
