Twenty-four Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Ahafo Ano South-West District have received start-up equipment, healthcare assistance, educational sponsorship, and financial support worth about GH¢100,000 to improve their livelihoods.
The support package, distributed at Mankranso by the District Assembly, formed part of efforts to promote economic empowerment and social inclusion for vulnerable groups in the district.
Beneficiaries received items including an okada tricycle, deep freezers, educational sponsorship packages, healthcare assistance, and start-up capital for small businesses.
Abubakar Sedik commended the government for the timely release of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), which he said had enabled the Assembly to implement projects and extend support to vulnerable residents.
According to him, prompt disbursement of the fund had helped Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies execute planned programmes within schedule for the benefit of communities.
The DCE expressed appreciation to John Dramani Mahama and the government for supporting the initiative and assured that more PWDs in the district would benefit from future distributions.
Mengisto Opoku Akowuah said the department was also working with the District Disability Federation to improve accessibility to public facilities and ensure greater inclusion of PWDs in development programmes.
He urged beneficiaries to use the support packages for their intended purposes and disclosed that the department would monitor the programme to ensure sustainability.
Kwame Sukoto, who received the tricycle, described the intervention as a major boost to improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance among PWDs in the district.
