Saka Homes, GETFund Launch 250-Bed Dormitory Project to Ease Accommodation Pressure at Achimota SHS

A major infrastructure push is underway at Achimota Senior High School as Saka Homes Limited, in partnership with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), begins work on a 250-bed dormitory to address longstanding accommodation challenges at the school.

The project, valued at GH¢18,702,819, is expected to expand student housing capacity, ease overcrowding, and strengthen the school’s physical infrastructure to support equitable access to education.

Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director of Saka Homes, Mr Ebenezer Kwadwo Saka Addi-Mensah, described the development as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, rooted in his personal connection to the school.

He noted that supporting Achimota SHS had long been a personal commitment. “It is an initiative that has been on my heart for a long time. Achimota School is my alma mater,” he said, adding that he had previously constructed and donated a 48-bed ward to the school five years ago.

The partnership with GETFund is also being supported through a collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority, which is facilitating tax relief incentives for private sector actors who contribute to education infrastructure development.

Mr Addi-Mensah urged more businesses and individuals to support GETFund’s initiatives, stressing that private sector involvement remains critical in bridging Ghana’s educational infrastructure gap.

Officials from GETFund welcomed the partnership, describing it as a model for private-public collaboration in addressing infrastructure deficits in schools across the country.

The Financial Controller of GETFund, Mr Alexis K. Asuinura, said the project reflects growing confidence in the Fund’s ability to mobilise partnerships that directly improve learning environments. He encouraged more corporate entities to come on board, noting that such contributions also allow sponsors to brand completed projects for visibility.

He further highlighted GETFund’s broader mandate under Act 581, which includes financing educational infrastructure and supporting human capital development through scholarships and other interventions.

GETFund reaffirmed its commitment to expanding educational facilities nationwide, stating that collaborations like the Achimota SHS dormitory project are central to reducing pressure on existing school infrastructure and improving access to quality education.
