Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Acting Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod, has come under fire following the circulation of a video showing him handing over dollar bills to controversial preacher Nana Agradaa at a recent funeral.
The footage, which quickly went viral, captured the moment Agradaa approached Gyamfi, reportedly seeking forgiveness for past comments and requesting that he convey an appeal to President John Dramani Mahama on her behalf. In the clip, Gyamfi is seen counting and passing a stack of dollar bills to the former fetish priestess turned evangelist.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, not only from opposition voices but also from within the NDC’s grassroots base and sections of the middle class. Critics argue that the public display of cash is inappropriate for a public servant and runs counter to the principles of transparency and accountability.
Some NDC supporters have expressed frustration, questioning why Gyamfi, a key figure in the party’s leadership, would extend financial support to Agradaa while they continue to face economic hardships. The incident has also drawn comparisons to the recent scandal involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, whose home was found to contain large sums of undeclared cash.
Social media platforms have been buzzing with reactions, with many calling for public officials to demonstrate greater financial discipline and restraint, particularly in light of the current economic challenges facing ordinary Ghanaians.
As of now, neither Gyamfi nor the NDC has issued a formal response to the controversy, but political observers suggest the incident could damage the party’s credibility as it seeks to maintain public trust ahead of the 2028 general elections.
