Stakeholders in Ghana’s agricultural sector have been called upon to intensify support for the cashew industry in the Savannah Region, highlighting its importance as a driver of livelihoods, employment, and economic growth.
Mr. Iddrisu Sumani, Ambassador for the Savannah Regional Voice of Agribusiness, told the Ghana News Agency that the region’s cashew value chain supports thousands of smallholder farmers, traders, processors, and young entrepreneurs, making it a vital contributor to local and national economies.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Sumani stressed the need for stakeholders to engage directly with farmers at the grassroots level. “Creating platforms where farmers can share their experiences and concerns ensures that national policies reflect the realities on the ground,” he said.
He also encouraged stakeholders to strengthen policy implementation and compliance within the sector. “When national policies are effectively applied, it promotes transparency, market integrity, and attracts investment and value addition,” Mr. Sumani explained.
As Chief Executive Officer of Bunyanso Farms Limited, Mr. Sumani emphasised that integrating farmers’ voices into policy discussions will help build a competitive and sustainable cashew industry capable of benefiting both local communities and the wider economy.
He further called on government agencies, regulatory bodies, development partners, and the media to support initiatives that raise awareness, ensure transparency, and foster responsible participation across the cashew value chain.
Experts suggest that with coordinated efforts and active engagement between policymakers and industry actors, the Savannah Region’s cashew sector could achieve significant growth while improving income and livelihoods for those involved.
