The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has confirmed the death of another Ghanaian pilgrim during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The deceased, identified as 60-year-old Alhaji Sulemana Iddrisu, reportedly passed away on May 26 at the plains of Arafat, one of the most sacred sites visited during the Islamic pilgrimage.
In a statement shared on Facebook, PAOG disclosed that the late pilgrim had been buried in Saudi Arabia in accordance with Islamic customs after his family was officially informed.
The office explained that under Saudi regulations, pilgrims who die during Hajj are prepared and buried in the Holy Land, with all official documentation handled by the authorities.
PAOG described the death as spiritually significant in Islamic belief, noting that passing away in a state of Ihram on the Day of Arafat is regarded as an honourable end for a Muslim pilgrim.
The office added that it worked closely with Saudi authorities to keep the family updated throughout the process before the burial was conducted.
PAOG also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for Allah’s mercy and acceptance of the deceased’s pilgrimage.
His passing comes days after another Ghanaian pilgrim, Musah Sidi, reportedly died while performing Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba in Mecca earlier during the pilgrimage.
