Security Agencies Launch Manhunt in Deadly Attack on Immigration Checkpoint
A joint security operation is underway in the North East Region following a deadly gun attack on a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) checkpoint at Gbintri in the East Mamprusi Municipality.
The incident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, claimed the life of Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICOII) Rafiq Mohammed, while his colleague, AICOII Oppong Daniel, sustained serious gunshot wounds. He is receiving emergency care at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Police investigators recovered several AK-47 shell casings and a GIS rifle left behind by the attackers. The discovery has become a crucial lead in the manhunt.
A combined team led by Superintendent Francis Brobbey, Municipal Police Commander for Gambaga, and DIS Moro Tanko Mohammed, Regional Intelligence Officer of GIS, has intensified patrols and intelligence operations to track down the perpetrators.
