A simmering land dispute in the Krachi Nchumuru District has escalated into violence, prompting a swift security response after clashes left one person dead and several others injured.
The conflict, involving factions from the Konkomba communities of Wurenja and Beposo, reportedly erupted after one group defied earlier directives to stay off the disputed farmland, triggering retaliatory attacks.
Confirming the incident, Martin Kofi Anato, District Chief Executive, said the situation has since been brought under control following the deployment of security personnel to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
The violence also led to the burning of houses belonging to members of the Nchumuru community, displacing residents and raising concerns over renewed ethnic tensions in the area.
According to the DCE, the District Security Committee had previously intervened in the dispute, instructing both sides to halt farming activities on the contested land pending a final resolution.
However, the directive was allegedly ignored, leading to the deadly confrontation that left one person dead and six others with injuries.
The deceased has been deposited at the Kete-Krachi Government Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Mr. Anato urged the feuding parties to exercise restraint and allow due process to resolve the matter, warning that any further acts of violence will be met with the full force of the law.
