The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced plans to begin reimbursing academic fees for first-year students enrolled in accredited diploma or degree programs at public tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year. The reimbursements, which will start in June 2025, are part of the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students and promoting higher education accessibility.
According to a statement from Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the CEO of SLTF, the reimbursements are in line with directives from the Ministry of Education. This initiative underscores the commitment of the John Dramani Mahama government to investing in the country’s human capital and ensuring a brighter future for young Ghanaians.
The policy, known as No-Fees-Stress, is designed to support first-year students by reimbursing academic user fees, making education more affordable for those pursuing higher learning at public tertiary institutions. Eligible students are required to submit their applications via the No-Fees-Stress application portal at https://nofeesstress.sltf.gov.gh.
SLTF officials clarified that applications will undergo validation against the admission data provided by the respective institutions to ensure eligibility. Dr. Shiraz urged all first-year students to apply promptly to ensure they receive their reimbursement.
In addition, the SLTF encouraged students to visit the official website for any inquiries or issues related to the application process, ensuring smooth access to this vital financial support. This move is seen as a significant step towards reducing the financial stress many students face when pursuing tertiary education in Ghana.
