Stanbic Bank Ghana has taken a major step toward advancing health education in the country by donating essential ICT equipment to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.

The donation aims to support the university’s digital learning initiatives and enhance teaching and research capabilities across its faculties.

The donated items, which include 10 laptops, 20 tablets, an 85-inch smart television, and a high-quality multi-purpose video camera, were handed over to the university’s management team led by Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato. The donation is part of the bank’s broader commitment to fostering national development and ensuring that Ghanaian institutions have access to the tools necessary for modern education delivery.

Mr. Harry Opoku-Agyemang, Head of Personal Banking at Stanbic Bank, highlighted the importance of technology in today’s education landscape, particularly in health sciences.

“In a world where digital access is crucial, we recognize that technology is not just a luxury, but a necessity for effective education, especially for institutions like UHAS, which are shaping the future of healthcare in Ghana,” he said.

The bank’s donation is seen as a timely contribution to UHAS’s mission of becoming a leader in health education in the West African sub-region. According to Mr. Opoku-Agyemang, the equipment will enable the university to engage in remote learning and virtual collaboration with global institutions, thus reducing the reliance on in-person lectures and facilitating international research partnerships. “With the right technology, a lecturer can teach from anywhere in the world, bringing invaluable expertise directly to UHAS students without the need for costly international travel,” he explained.

The significance of this donation goes beyond just digital learning. Mr. Opoku-Agyemang also emphasized the role of technology in training local healthcare professionals capable of managing complex medical procedures independently.

“Investing in health education means empowering local professionals to solve Ghana’s healthcare challenges,” he added.

In her response, Vice Chancellor Professor Lydia Aziato expressed deep gratitude to Stanbic Bank for the thoughtful donation. She noted that the university’s strategic goal of being a regional leader in health education aligns perfectly with the bank’s support for digital innovation in education.

However, she also took the opportunity to highlight other pressing needs at the university, such as infrastructure, student accommodations, and specialized teaching equipment.

“We are thankful for this generous donation, and we hope this partnership can extend further to address some of our infrastructural and resource challenges,” she said, recognizing the potential for even more collaboration in the future.

UHAS’s Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, assured Stanbic Bank that the equipment would be put to good use and carefully maintained. She expressed confidence that the donation would enhance the university’s ability to deliver top-quality education and improve the learning environment for students.

This donation signals an encouraging trend of collaboration between the private sector and academia, with a focus on leveraging technology to improve the quality of education in critical fields such as healthcare. It highlights the important role that corporate institutions can play in supporting the growth of educational institutions and, by extension, the development of the nation.
