Stanbic Bank Ghana has taken a bold step to support healthcare education by donating advanced digital tools to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.
This move, aimed at bridging the technology gap in medical training, is expected to enhance both classroom learning and innovative research, while preparing a new generation of health professionals to tackle complex medical challenges.
The donation, which includes 10 laptops, 20 tablets, an 85-inch smart television, and a multi-purpose video camera, reflects the bank’s broader commitment to supporting critical sectors beyond finance. The items were received by UHAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato, who lauded the gesture as a timely boost to the institution’s digital capabilities.
Empowering the Next Generation of Health Professionals
Speaking at the handover, Mr. Harry Opoku-Agyemang, Head of Personal Banking at Stanbic Bank, emphasized the role of technology in transforming medical education. He highlighted that in a rapidly changing world, access to digital tools is essential for training healthcare workers who can independently handle complex medical situations.
“Technology is more than just a convenience in education—it is the backbone of modern learning,” Mr. Opoku-Agyemang noted. “With these tools, UHAS can connect with global institutions for remote lectures and research collaborations, allowing students to gain world-class knowledge without leaving Ghana.”
He stressed the importance of building local capacity, pointing out that the ability to train healthcare specialists locally will reduce reliance on foreign expertise and strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
Laying the Foundation for a Digital Future
The donation is part of Stanbic Bank’s broader strategy to invest in human capital development. Mr. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged students to use the equipment creatively, urging them to combine technological skills with discipline and innovation to drive progress.
“You don’t just learn medicine—you learn how to solve problems, innovate, and make a difference in people’s lives. That requires both the right tools and the right mindset,” he said.
Strengthening Industry-Academia Partnerships
Professor Aziato, in her response, expressed deep appreciation to Stanbic Bank for recognizing the strategic importance of investing in healthcare education. She underscored that the partnership aligns perfectly with UHAS’s vision of becoming a leading institution in health sciences within the sub-region.
“This donation is a critical step toward achieving our mission of training globally competitive healthcare professionals,” she said. She also called for further collaboration, particularly in addressing infrastructure challenges, laboratory equipment needs, and the development of modern teaching facilities.
UHAS Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, assured the bank that the donated items would be carefully maintained to ensure long-term impact, emphasizing that the university is committed to leveraging the new technology to improve healthcare outcomes.
A Model for Corporate Support in Education
The donation marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between corporate institutions and educational bodies in Ghana, signaling a shared commitment to national development through strategic investment in human capital. As the healthcare landscape evolves, partnerships like this will be crucial in preparing future generations of professionals to meet the demands of a digital, knowledge-driven world.
