Intercity State Transport Company (STC) is exploring a potential collaboration with the Ghana Navy to expand transportation options, including water transport. This follows a courtesy visit by STC Managing Director, Mr. Ligbi Alhassan, to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, at the Naval Headquarters in Accra on Monday, February 24, 2025.
According to an official statement on STC’s verified Facebook page, discussions focused on identifying possible areas of partnership between the two institutions. A key aspect of the talks was the feasibility of introducing water transportation as a complement to STC’s existing road network.
If implemented, the collaboration could help alleviate heavy road traffic, improve travel efficiency, and enhance safety for commuters. Additionally, the initiative is expected to boost local tourism by offering alternative routes and scenic travel options across Ghana’s waterways.
The meeting signals a step toward innovation in Ghana’s transport sector, with STC and the Navy considering how best to leverage their strengths for a more integrated and efficient system.
