Construction of the 34-kilometre Sunyani Outer Ring Road is gathering momentum, with contractors beginning preparatory asphalt works on key sections of the dual-carriage project.
The project, being executed under the government’s “Big Push” road infrastructure programme, is expected to ease congestion in Sunyani and improve road connectivity between communities in the Bono Regional capital and surrounding areas.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the project site showed workers spreading and levelling chippings along the Fiapre Roundabout section, signalling progress towards the next stages of road construction.
Site Engineer for Kofi Job Company Limited, the contractor handling the project, Kofi Kamkam, said the company was satisfied with the progress and remained committed to delivering a quality road.
He explained that the ongoing chipping works would be followed by base preparation and compaction before the final asphalt surfacing commenced.
“You can now see for yourself the progress we are making in the chipping work. This is to pave the way for base work and compaction before we begin the actual asphalting works,” he said.
Mr Kamkam said the contractor was working to complete the project before the end of the stipulated two-year contract period, while commending residents, traditional authorities and other stakeholders for their cooperation.
He appealed to motorists and residents in affected communities to exercise caution around construction zones and avoid activities that could interfere with the works.
President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the project on December 21, 2025, as part of efforts under the “Big Push” initiative to expand critical infrastructure, stimulate economic activity and improve transportation networks.
The road will connect Fiapre, Nanketewa, Old Abesim, Old Odomase and New Odomase, while linking the Sunyani-Berekum and Sunyani-Abesim highways.
When completed, the project is expected to provide an alternative route for motorists, reduce pressure on existing roads, improve mobility and facilitate economic activities across Sunyani and adjoining communities.
