The Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has expressed appreciation to the public and stakeholders following his official recognition and gazetting by the National House of Chiefs.
The development, which confirms his recognition as a member of the National House of Chiefs, was met with celebrations in Sunyani, where chiefs, queen mothers, traditional leaders and residents welcomed him after his return from Accra.
The Bono Regional capital witnessed scenes of excitement as Odeefour Korkor II, dressed in an all-white traditional outfit, travelled through the principal streets of Sunyani in an open-top vehicle, waving to cheering supporters who lined the streets.
A royal of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, Mr Ransford Antwi, described the gazetting as the conclusion of a long journey towards affirming Odeefour Korkor II as the rightful occupant of the Sunyani Traditional Stool.
“The good news is that Odeefour Korkor II has finally been gazetted,” Mr Antwi told the media.
He expressed gratitude to individuals and institutions whose efforts contributed to the recognition process, particularly the leadership and members of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
Mr Antwi specifically acknowledged Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, as well as Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, Paramount Chief of the Drobo Traditional Area and Vice President of the House, for their roles in facilitating the process.
He also commended the various gates within the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, including the Kwantwiwaa Gate, whose sacrifices he said contributed to the outcome.
Mr Antwi urged members of the other royal gates, including the Akosua Dua and Nyantakyiwaa Gates, to unite and work together for the progress of Sunyani.
He described the recognition as the outcome of a difficult journey that came with emotional, psychological and personal challenges.
“This marks the completion of a project that cost me so much, physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and only God knows,” he said.
Mr Antwi also expressed appreciation to his family, his wife Safura, his Dagomba in-laws and supporters who stood with him throughout the process.
He praised the kingmakers and the entire Sunyani Traditional Council for their commitment and called for continued emphasis on transparency and accountability in traditional affairs.
He acknowledged that the enstoolment process attracted both supporters and critics but said he held no resentment against anyone, stressing that all parties were motivated by their desire to protect the interests of Sunyani.
He called on all stakeholders to unite and focus on the development and progress of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
