The Sunyani Traditional Council has declared that the suspension of Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Amponsem II remains in force, rejecting an attempt by the Paramount Queen-mother to lift the sanction.
In a statement signed by Kwaku Sarbeng Ababio, the Council maintained that Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II does not have the authority to revoke the suspension imposed on the Krontrihene in 2024.
According to the Council, only the Omanhene, Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has the legal authority to reverse the decision because the Krontrihene owes allegiance to the Omanhene and not the Queen-mother.
The Council further argued that the Queen-mother is not a member of the Traditional Council and therefore cannot take decisions on its behalf.
It disclosed that the Queen-mother had earlier written to the Council seeking consent to revoke the suspension, but was informed in a response dated April 17, 2026, that she lacked the authority to do so.
The Traditional Council described her subsequent public announcement lifting the suspension as “null and void” and insisted that the Krontrihene remains suspended.
The statement added that the Omanhene has been engaging in consultations aimed at restoring order within the Krontire family and resolving the impasse surrounding the stool.
