Miss Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, has taken matters into her own hands by personally funding the rehabilitation of a major 400-kilometre road network within the municipality.
The MP is financing the reshaping of the Odomfour Apraku II road, a critical stretch connecting Odomase, the municipal capital, to Fiapre—an artery residents say has been neglected for years, impacting daily movement, health, and business.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the project, Ms. Amankwah Yeboah said she decided to intervene directly due to the unrelenting public outcry over the road’s poor condition, which she acknowledged was stalling economic growth in the municipality.
“This road is not just a route—it is a lifeline for commerce, health access, and education. I could no longer wait on bureaucratic timelines while my people suffered,” she stated.
Though she reaffirmed the government’s broader commitment to improving infrastructure in the Bono Region, the MP’s bold initiative has spotlighted gaps in public road investment, particularly in peri-urban and rural communities.
The Bono Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, who accompanied the MP on the tour, praised her for the intervention. He described the road as a key economic conduit, connecting farming zones to markets and healthcare facilities.
“This is what leadership looks like—responding to urgent community needs while we work towards broader policy implementation,” the Minister said.
Residents in Odomase have lauded the MP’s action, describing the project as long overdue and crucial to easing years of frustration and physical hardship.
“We’ve lived with this dust and discomfort for too long. It’s not just a road; it’s about our health, our businesses, our lives,” said Mr. Nurudeen Abubakar, a local resident.
Madam Mabel Amoako, another resident, highlighted the immediate impact of the project: “Transport has become smoother already, and we can now move our goods more easily. We’re hopeful this continues.”
Ms. Amankwah Yeboah also revealed that additional road improvement works are planned, including for the Nsoatre Hospital Road and Chiraa town roads, urging constituents to maintain confidence in both local leadership and central government efforts.
While the project has received praise, it also raises critical questions about the sustainability of lawmakers personally financing infrastructure, and the need for accelerated public sector responsiveness to community concerns.
Nonetheless, in Sunyani West, residents say they have found hope—and progress—in their MP’s hands-on approach.
