A 30-year-old mason has been remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court after being allegedly caught inside a trader’s shop under suspicious circumstances at dawn.
Solomon Wereko, who pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing, is expected to reappear before the court on April 22, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the incident unfolded in Mpasatia when two sons of the complainant, a trader, arrived at their mother’s shop early in the morning and noticed unusual activity. The boys reportedly found the shop lights on—despite having switched them off the previous night—and upon closer inspection, saw the accused inside.
Their alarm attracted nearby residents, leading to the arrest of Wereko by police officers from Mpasatia who were called to the scene.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access by climbing onto a nearby structure, damaging parts of the shop, and forcing entry through the roof before breaking the padlock.
Police said items including liquid soap, hand gloves, electrical cables, and socks valued at GH¢1,160 were taken.
While Wereko admitted to entering the shop without permission, he denied stealing the items or causing damage.
The court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, ordered his remand as investigations continue into the case.
