Police in the Greater Accra Region have launched a full-scale investigation into a gruesome murder at the Tema Harbour enclave after a man was caught allegedly carrying a human head in a plastic bag.
The suspect, identified as Ali Mustapha, was apprehended by shocked residents who confronted him upon the suspicious discovery. He was immediately handed over to the Tema Regional Police Command.
In a press release shared with the Ghana News Agency, police revealed that further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Zakaria Mohammed, believed to be Mustapha’s accomplice in the murder.
The case unfolded following a distress call received by police on May 30, 2025, reporting the presence of a lifeless male body in the harbour area. Responding officers later confirmed that Mustapha was being held by members of the public for allegedly transporting a human head—suspected to belong to the deceased.
Police intervened swiftly, took Mustapha into custody, and later arrested Mohammed based on additional intelligence.
The unidentified body has since been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation, as investigators work to confirm the victim’s identity and unravel the motive behind the killing.
Both suspects remain in custody as police intensify efforts to bring closure to what has been described as one of the most disturbing crimes in the Tema area in recent memory.
