A power struggle has erupted within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin North District, following a dramatic takeover of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) office in Assin Breku.
On Monday, July 21, a group of NDC constituency executives, led by the Constituency Organiser, stormed the district YEA premises, forcibly removed the current occupant, Christian Ankomahene Amoah, and installed Samuel Bright Ativi as the new District Director.
Christian Amoah, who is the Deputy Organiser of the NDC in the district, has reportedly been in office for over two months. However, his legitimacy has been questioned by his party colleagues, who insist the appointment rightly belongs to the main Constituency Organiser—Samuel Bright Ativi.
The confrontation culminated in the breaking of office locks and the installation of new ones by Ativi’s supporters, symbolizing what they claim is a correction of a party error.
Speaking to Citi News, Samuel Bright Ativi declared that he is now officially in charge and has the necessary appointment letter to prove it. “In the party structure, the YEA appointment is meant for the substantive Youth Organiser. I don’t know how my deputy was initially selected, but today, I’ve assumed office with my official letter,” he asserted.
The situation has drawn concern over internal party coordination and the politicization of public office appointments, with some observers warning it could undermine the smooth running of the YEA’s operations in the district.
