Deputy Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has highlighted the growing influence of tourism in shaping Ghana’s road infrastructure priorities.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Suhuyini emphasized that while high-traffic areas, densely populated communities, and agricultural production zones remain key factors in road development, the tourism sector is increasingly becoming a major consideration.
“Tourism has also become an area that can attract the need for roads to be prioritized,” he stated, adding that improved road networks to tourist sites would enhance accessibility, boost local economies, and promote national development.
Suhuyini assured that under the Mahama administration, untarred roads across the country would receive significant attention.
He further noted that ultimate decisions on prioritization would be determined by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, in consultation with President Mahama.
“The Minister, working with the president, will give the guidance and direction as to how the ministry will prioritize roads that will be constructed within the period,” he said.
“It’s sad that in this era we still have roads that are untarred. I’m very confident that together with my minister, we will do our very best to address this.”
His remarks signal a broader approach to infrastructure planning, ensuring that road development aligns with Ghana’s economic growth and tourism potential.
