Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Ghana’s Minister of Transport, took a hands-on approach Thursday with a site visit to Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), inspecting the ongoing expansion and rehabilitation projects at Kotoka International Airport. The visit underscores the government’s determination to position Ghana as the premier aviation hub in West Africa.
Focusing on practical progress beyond policy discussions, Mr. Nikpe toured the strategic reconfiguration of Terminal 2, which is being revamped to alleviate heavy congestion at Terminal 3, especially during peak travel periods. The revamped Terminal 2 will serve dual roles: one section dedicated to domestic flights and the other to international travelers, easing passenger flow and enhancing comfort.
“We cannot keep discussing improvements without seeing them on the ground,” the Minister emphasized, praising the contractors’ steady progress and assuring that the renovation would be completed by year-end or early next year.
Additionally, Mr. Nikpe visited the construction site of GACL’s forthcoming 11-storey administrative head office, which will modernize the company’s corporate infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities. Currently in its second phase, the office project complements the wider modernization efforts across the airport.
Ending the visit, the Minister interacted with GACL staff, applauding their dedication and encouraging sustained commitment to delivering world-class service to travelers and stakeholders alike.
This direct engagement signals a government keen on translating its aviation sector aspirations into tangible, impactful infrastructure improvements, setting the stage for Ghana’s rise as a key regional air transport nexus.
