A 32-year-old woman, Madam Cecilia Fordjour, has been left permanently disfigured after her husband allegedly bit off her ear during a domestic altercation in Dambai, Oti Region.
The incident occurred on September 5 at Banka, a community in the township, after the suspect, Emmanuel Addai, reportedly returned from a funeral and confronted his wife while she was preparing food. The confrontation escalated into violence, resulting in Madam Fordjour’s ear being bitten off.
She was rushed to a health facility for treatment, but doctors could not reattach the ear due to delays in getting medical attention.
Women’s rights advocates say the case highlights the urgent need for stronger interventions against domestic violence, which continues to leave many victims physically and emotionally scarred.
Police have since arrested Addai, who has been granted bail but ordered to report to the station on September 11 as investigations continue. Authorities confirmed he will soon be arraigned before the Jasikan Circuit Court.
Community leaders and activists are calling for justice for Madam Fordjour, stressing that domestic abuse cases should not be treated lightly.
