A new empowerment initiative is equipping women and young girls in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality with digital, entrepreneurial and environmental skills aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing unemployment.
The programme, known as the Digital, Green and Innovative Pathways for Youth and Women Empowerment (D-GRIP), is being implemented by the Muslim Family Counselling Services to promote digital inclusion, green innovation and entrepreneurship among underserved communities.
The 10-month project targets 100 youth and women, with additional plans to train schoolgirls in digital literacy, establish Digi-Labs, and build the capacity of community and faith leaders in environmental governance.
Speaking on the project, Lead Consultant of SOCIPACT Consultancy Services Limited and Project Lead, Mr. George Appiah, said assessments in the municipality revealed strong entrepreneurial interest among women and youth, despite barriers such as digital exclusion, unemployment and limited access to training opportunities.
He noted that many applicants currently rely only on basic mobile tools such as WhatsApp Business, highlighting the need for foundational digital skills training to bridge the gap.
Project Coordinator Mr. Musah Iddrisu added that nearly 79 percent of applicants were women, showing growing interest in digital entrepreneurship among young females in the area.
He said the initiative would also strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.
The project is funded by the KGL Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of KGL Group, which supports development programmes in education, innovation, health and youth empowerment.
Participants expressed optimism that the training would enhance their digital skills and open new economic opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
