Communities across the Oti Region are set to benefit from improved healthcare delivery and safer water practices following a major intervention by World Vision Ghana, which has supplied vital medical and water treatment items to the Oti Regional Health Directorate.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns about the rise in water-related illnesses in parts of the region — a challenge that local authorities say has claimed several lives in recent years, particularly in Dambai and surrounding areas.
The donation, made possible through Gift-in-Kind (GIK) support from World Vision Canada and Procter & Gamble (P&G), included over 1,000 boxes of medical gloves, 400 disposable CPE gowns, 50 WASH buckets, and more than 100 boxes of P&G water purifiers for emergency use in health facilities.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Regional Health Directorate, Mr. Emmanuel Gatewku, Deputy Director of Finance, described the gesture as a “timely boost” to healthcare delivery and infection prevention efforts.
“These supplies will go a long way to improve hygiene practices and support quality healthcare delivery across the Oti Region,” he said. “World Vision has proven to be a dependable partner, and we deeply appreciate this continued collaboration.”
The Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, commended World Vision Ghana for what he described as “a lifesaving intervention.” He noted that the region continues to battle water-related diseases and called for the extension of similar support to other districts such as Krachi East and Nkwanta South.
“Since I assumed office, we have sadly lost several people due to unsafe water sources. We need stronger and broader interventions. I am appealing to World Vision to extend their reach to more vulnerable communities,” the Minister urged.
Mr. Irvine Aboagye, World Vision Ghana’s Southern Regional Operations Manager, said the donation forms part of the organisation’s long-term commitment to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and public health initiatives.
“Water is life, but life must be lived in good health. World Vision remains dedicated to improving access to safe water and sanitation at both community and household levels,” he affirmed.
He added that World Vision would continue working closely with the Regional Coordinating Council and local partners to strengthen community resilience through health and hygiene education.
The donation aligns with World Vision Ghana’s national strategy to enhance health systems and ensure that every child and family in Ghana enjoys access to clean water and quality healthcare.
