With just hours to the start of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining the credibility of the national exam and protecting the academic futures of students.

A total of 603,328 candidates across Ghana are set to sit for this year’s BECE, scheduled from Today, Wednesday, June 11 to Wednesday, June 18, marking one of the most significant national assessments in the country’s education calendar.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, GES Director-General, Prof. Ernest Davies, underscored the Service’s zero-tolerance policy on exam malpractice, warning that any invigilator or supervisor caught aiding cheating would be immediately dismissed.

“We will not compromise the integrity of this examination. The future of over 600,000 children is at stake,” Prof. Davies stated firmly.

He noted that all logistical and administrative preparations had been completed, adding that GES was working in close coordination with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), security agencies, and regional education offices to ensure a smooth process.

Beyond logistics, Prof. Davies issued a national appeal for collective responsibility, calling on teachers, parents, and community leaders to help combat examination malpractices that continue to undermine Ghana’s education standards.

“We must create an environment where our children know that honesty and effort matter more than shortcuts,” he urged.

In a show of compassion for students and parents, Prof. Davies also announced that despite the closure of the official deadline for school placement selections, all candidates will still be allowed to choose their preferred senior high schools.

“No child will be denied an opportunity. We are committed to ensuring every candidate has a fair shot at their next academic journey,” he assured.

As anticipation builds nationwide, this year’s BECE will not only test the academic readiness of students but also the nation’s resolve to uphold integrity, fairness, and equal opportunity in education.
