The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released all withheld results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) following a court order. This brings relief to over 10,000 affected candidates who had faced weeks of uncertainty after their results were held back over alleged examination malpractices.
The decision to release the results follows intense legal pressure and advocacy from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), which had threatened nationwide protests if WAEC failed to act. A court ruling compelled the Council to comply, ensuring that all candidates received their results by the promised deadline of February 28.
Speaking to Citi FM, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed that there are no longer any pending results under investigation. He assured the public that WAEC remained committed to fairness and transparency in its processes.
“As we promised, we kept to our word. By the close of 28th February, we had uploaded all the results of candidates whose results had been withheld. The court had ordered us to release those results, and we have duly complied,” Mr. Kapi stated.
He acknowledged that while the results had been published, WAEC expected some candidates to raise concerns in the coming days. However, he emphasized that the released results accurately reflected candidates’ performance in the examination.
The resolution of this issue not only restores confidence in WAEC’s examination processes but also highlights the power of legal and student-led advocacy in ensuring fairness within the education system.
