The Minister of Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has ordered an investigation into allegations of unjustified staff promotions at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), emphasizing the need for fairness and meritocracy in the Authority’s human resource practices.
During a visit to the GPHA, Mr. Nikpe underscored the importance of professionalism and efficiency in the management of Ghana’s ports, warning against politically motivated promotions that could undermine the institution’s credibility.
“The port is a business hub, and all decisions made must reflect that reality. Promotions should be based on merit, not political considerations,” the Minister stated.
In response, GPHA Director-General, Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, assured the Minister that a review of the promotions process was already underway. He pledged to address any irregular advancements and take corrective measures where necessary.
The Minister’s directive is expected to reinforce transparency and fairness in GPHA’s staff promotions, ensuring that employees advance based on competence, experience, and performance rather than external influences.
This move comes amid broader efforts to enhance efficiency and accountability within Ghana’s key state institutions, particularly in sectors critical to economic growth and international trade.
