In a bold show of environmental leadership, Lakeside Estate Limited has thrown its weight behind Ghana’s national afforestation campaign, with its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Prince-Joseph MK. Ayiku, urging real estate stakeholders to move beyond construction and embrace ecological responsibility.
Participating in the 2025 edition of the Green Ghana Initiative, the award-winning real estate developer mobilised residents, staff, and contractors to plant trees under the theme “Planting Today, Protecting Tomorrow” — a move aimed at reinforcing its identity as a sustainability-driven business.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ayiku stressed that sustainable urban development is no longer optional in a climate-threatened world. “While we build homes, it is trees that complete them,” he said. “They cool our neighborhoods, purify our air, prevent erosion, and enrich biodiversity.”
Dr. Ayiku’s remarks struck a chord amid national concerns over Ghana’s dwindling forest cover — estimated at 135,000 hectares lost annually due to illegal mining, logging, and unsustainable farming. With the government setting a target to plant 10 million trees in 2025, he described tree planting as one of the most accessible and effective climate actions available.
More than a ceremonial gesture, Lakeside Estate’s participation was positioned as a reflection of its core philosophy. “Our involvement goes beyond corporate social responsibility. It is a business imperative,” Dr. Ayiku stated. “Today’s clients want eco-friendly communities where nature thrives. Sustainability drives demand.”
As a four-time CIMG Real Estate Company of the Year, Lakeside Estate continues to pioneer green design principles, proving that profitable real estate can co-exist with environmental stewardship.
“Let us grow not just homes, but habitats. Let us build not just with bricks and concrete, but with the living spirit of nature,” he said, reinforcing a call for real estate players across the country to integrate green spaces and tree cover into their developments.
The 2025 Green Ghana Day, observed under the theme “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow,” marked the fifth anniversary of the national reforestation drive launched in 2021. Lakeside’s participation, Dr. Ayiku said, represents a long-term pledge to preserve Ghana’s environment — tree by tree, home by home.
