NPP Makes Sweeping Reform Agenda at National Conference Today

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is taking a bold step toward internal transformation as it convenes its National Delegates Conference today, Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra. The event marks a critical moment of reckoning for the party following its loss in the 2024 general elections.

With over 5,500 delegates in attendance, the conference is expected to serve as both a forum for rebuilding the party’s foundation and a strategic launchpad for reform, guided by the theme: “Rebuilding Together with our Values.”

The gathering is not merely ceremonial; it signals a deep, introspective exercise aimed at retooling the NPP’s political machinery, restoring public trust, and redefining its ideological compass after years in power and a humbling electoral defeat.

Speaking to Channel One News, Joseph Osei Owusu, Chairman of the Planning Committee, noted that more than 50 consolidated motions will be considered—reflecting months of internal debate and a wide call for party renewal. These motions, drawn from over 300 proposed amendments submitted nationwide, aim to address key constitutional, organizational, and governance issues within the party.

“This conference is about more than procedure—it is about charting a path forward,” Osei Owusu said. “We’ve consolidated several complex proposals into streamlined motions to ensure that delegates can focus on the big-picture reforms.”

He confirmed that all motions have been vetted by the National Executive Committee, with comprehensive documentation already made available ahead of today’s deliberations.

Observers say the outcome of the conference could determine the NPP’s viability as a cohesive political force ahead of the 2028 election cycle. The party faces pressing questions about its leadership structure, grassroots engagement, ideological clarity, and policy direction—especially in a political climate where public confidence has waned.

Party insiders describe the event as a crucial opportunity to heal internal divisions, renew its commitment to democratic values, and reconnect with its base—a base that has grown increasingly vocal about issues of accountability and inclusion.

As the conference unfolds, many within the party and across the political landscape will be watching not just for what changes are made, but whether the NPP is truly ready to reinvent itself for a new era of Ghanaian politics.
