The Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has dismissed claims that gunmen stormed the residence of former Hohoe MP, John Peter Amewu, urging him to refrain from misrepresenting events and tarnishing the constituency’s reputation.
Reports had earlier suggested that on Wednesday, March 5, unknown assailants, including an individual allegedly posing as a court bailiff, had fired gunshots at Amewu’s residence. However, in an exclusive interview with Channel One Newsroom, Tsekpo strongly refuted these allegations.
Clarification of the Incident
According to Tsekpo, the individuals who visited Amewu’s residence were not armed attackers, but rather a delegation comprising a court bailiff and a security officer who had gone there to post a court notice. He emphasized that no shots were fired and suggested that Amewu may have miscommunicated the incident for political gain.
Hohoe Remains a Peaceful Constituency
Tsekpo further assured that Hohoe is a peaceful constituency, with its five traditional areas coexisting harmoniously. He cautioned Amewu against making statements that could create unnecessary tension.
“The former MP knows that the people of Hohoe are peaceful. That is why I said he should exercise patience when such things happen. He may think he is promoting his party, but in reality, he is giving Hohoe a bad name. I don’t think his life is in danger,” Tsekpo stated.
He also recalled that just two weeks prior, Amewu had confidently moved around the constituency, stating in an interview that when he was MP and a minister, he often drove alone without security concerns.
Tsekpo’s remarks seek to dispel fears surrounding the incident and reaffirm Hohoe’s reputation as a safe and orderly community.
