Former President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to gender equality, urging Ghanaians to take decisive steps toward empowering women in all aspects of life.
In a message marking International Women’s Day on March 8, Mahama emphasized the need for concrete actions rather than just rhetoric. He pointed to Ghana’s progress, particularly the election of the nation’s first female Vice President, as a milestone that must be built upon.
“This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, is a call for urgency. Ghana has taken important steps, but there is still much work to do,” Mahama stated in a Facebook post.
He stressed the importance of investing in women’s education, supporting female entrepreneurs, and increasing women’s participation in leadership and politics. According to Mahama, true progress will come only when women have equal opportunities to contribute to national development.
As part of his advocacy, Mahama urged policymakers, businesses, and civil society to work together in creating a more inclusive society. He concluded with a strong call to action: “Let’s build a Ghana where every woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential.”
His message resonated with the global theme of the day, reinforcing the urgency of accelerating efforts toward gender equality.
