The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Ghanaians living overseas, announcing new measures to ensure the security of citizens as Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran prepares to reopen.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 2, the Ministry confirmed that the Embassy in Iran will resume operations on September 16, after being closed for three months due to heightened regional tensions between Iran and Israel.
Officials explained that the reopening was made possible by an improved security environment in Tehran, but stressed that vigilance would remain a priority.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that with the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations… The Ministry will continue to monitor developments closely to guarantee the safety of staff at the mission as well as members of the Ghanaian community in Iran,” the statement assured.
The closure of the Embassy on June 16 had raised concerns among Ghanaians with business, academic, and diplomatic interests in Iran. By pledging regular updates and stronger protective measures, government seeks to calm lingering concerns while underscoring its duty of care to citizens abroad.
