President John Dramani Mahama is spearheading diplomatic efforts to mend strained relations between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS).
During a high-level meeting in Ouagadougou with Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Mahama emphasized the importance of rebuilding trust and fostering open dialogue between the two regional blocs. His engagement marks a significant step toward restoring cooperation and stability in West Africa.
As part of his commitment to addressing the concerns of Sahel states, Mahama assured that their grievances would be tabled at the upcoming ECOWAS summit. This move signals a renewed push for regional unity and conflict resolution amid rising diplomatic tensions.
Beyond diplomacy, Mahama also announced ongoing discussions to launch direct daily flights between Accra and Ouagadougou. This initiative is expected to boost trade, enhance connectivity, and strengthen economic and social ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Ghana’s proactive role in facilitating regional peace and integration underscores its commitment to a stable and economically connected West Africa.
