The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken decisive action to uphold its academic standards by withdrawing 38 Level 100 students for failing to meet the institution’s minimum academic requirements.
In a letter dated March 7, 2025, and signed by Dr. Mohammed Adam, Acting Head of Department (HOD), the university cited students’ inability to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0 or failure to pass the permissible number of courses after resits. This decision aligns with section 4.2.1 of the Revised Undergraduate Students Handbook (2019).
The affected students underwent an academic audit and were provided counseling before the final decision was made. As a result, they are no longer eligible to proceed to Level 200 or participate in any assessments for second-year courses.
Of the 38 students, 32 were dismissed due to a CGPA below 1.0, while the remaining six failed more than three courses by the end of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The university has instructed faculty to update course registers accordingly, ensuring that the academic integrity of UEW remains uncompromised.
