The Sekyere Kumawu District Security Council (DISEC) has issued a strong rebuttal to recent media claims alleging growing insecurity in the Kumawu area, describing the reports as inaccurate and potentially damaging to the community’s image.
In a press release signed by District Chief Executive and DISEC Chairman, Kwasi Amankwaa, the council denounced the reports as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that Kumawu remains calm, secure, and united.
The statement specifically refuted claims that the Paramount Chief, Nana Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, is using armed men to assert control in the area. According to DISEC, the individuals seen accompanying the Omanhene at public events are members of cultural ensembles who participate in traditional ceremonies and funerals in a purely ceremonial capacity. These groups, the council clarified, are not armed vigilantes nor do they reside permanently in the town.
“There has been no breach of peace, no intimidation, and no disruption of daily life,” the council stated, reinforcing that Kumawu has not experienced any incidents that warrant concern over public safety.
DISEC emphasized its ongoing collaboration with national security agencies to preserve law and order, and warned against the potential consequences of irresponsible journalism.
“The spread of such unfounded stories not only undermines the credibility of traditional leadership but also poses a threat to community cohesion,” the statement said.
As misinformation increasingly challenges governance and social stability in various parts of the country, DISEC’s swift response highlights the importance of verifying facts before publication. The council urged media practitioners to uphold ethical standards and report responsibly.
“Kumawu is peaceful, Kumawu is safe, and Kumawu continues to stand strong in unity and development,” the statement concluded.
