The Government of Ghana has announced an upward review of the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, raising it from GH₵3,228.75 per bag to GH₵3,625 per bag.
This adjustment translates into GH₵58,000 per tonne, marking a 12.27% increase over the price announced earlier in August.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, after extensive consultations with stakeholders in the cocoa sector.
According to the statement, the new price takes effect from Friday, October 3, 2025. Government explained that the increment represents an average rise of GH₵400 per bag and is aimed at ensuring fairer returns to cocoa farmers.
Dr. Forson emphasized that while margins, fees, and rates to other stakeholders, including COCOBOD, remain unchanged, interventions to support cocoa farmers will be intensified.
“COCOBOD will continue to implement measures to improve cocoa production and enhance the welfare of farmers,” he assured.
Key interventions outlined include the intensified supply of free cocoa fertilizers (both liquid and granular), insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
Furthermore, COCOBOD reaffirmed its commitment to roll out a new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers beginning in the 2026/27 academic year.
The Finance Minister reiterated government’s commitment to building a robust and resilient cocoa sector. “We remain dedicated to supporting COCOBOD to provide sustainable and optimal benefits to all stakeholders in the cocoa industry,” the statement read.
