Ghana’s leading state-owned newspaper, the Daily Graphic, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, marked its 75th anniversary with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony at its head office in Accra. The event brought together government officials, media stakeholders, and staff of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) to celebrate what has been described as a “true Ghanaian institution.”
Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, who represented government at the ceremony, commended the Daily Graphic for its decades-long commitment to accuracy, integrity, and service. He said the newspaper’s journey was inseparable from the history of Ghana itself, highlighting its contribution to nation-building and democratic consolidation.
“Graphic is a true Ghanaian institution whose legacy is tied to the very history of our nation,” Mr. Debrah stated, adding that its 75 years of truth and service provided lessons for the entire media fraternity.
He assured the company’s management that concerns raised about limited state support would be conveyed to the President. At the same time, he reaffirmed government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom, strengthening media capacity, and supporting the transition of traditional outlets into the digital era.
While urging the media to remain reliable partners in development, Mr. Debrah also took the opportunity to encourage journalists to help prepare citizens for emerging national policies such as the 24-Hour Economy, which he described as transformative for productivity and job creation.
Board members, management, and staff of GCGL expressed pride in the paper’s resilience and pledged to continue upholding the values of professionalism and impartiality.
The anniversary not only celebrated the endurance of the Daily Graphic but also reinforced the critical role of the media as partners in shaping Ghana’s future.
